Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
Applicable to all works presented.
My goal is to create a space, an empty space to which new forms are drawn. A game of veils and reveals, of emptiness and content, of absence and form. A dialogue between the translucent and the opaque. The material is silk paper treated with lacquer.
All through the treatment, we amplify the transparence of the material enhancing the pass through of the light. The volume is reached departing from the sucession of translucent layers.
“The Alchemy is a way to evolve through the transformation of the material”
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
To submerge into sensorial. To let go so that the experience could be a transition, a game where spectator is likely to discover and to “see more” -if he wills to-.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
It appears, or heard somewhere, that is Post Minimalism tradition the one that my works identify the most with. Contemporary references: Cornelia Parker, Andy Goldsworthy, James Turrell, Eva Hesse, Mona Hatoum, Cildo Meireles, Agnes Martin. Argentine artists: Julio Le Parc and Victor Grippo. Video artists: Bill Viola, Daniel Canogar, Pipiotti Rist, Octavio Iturbe and Thierry de Mey (dance-video). Some dance works like Mobius trip of Gilles jobin, Érection de Pierre Rigal, Wind and River, by the Eiko & Koma dance company with the Kronos Quartet, made me think about the interferences and communions between visual arts and the arts of movement.
From all times: Marcel Duchamp, Francis Bacon, La Bauhaus, Piet Mondrian, Joan Miro, Vasili Kandinski, Madi art and the Russian constructivism.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
When I was 15 years old an exhibition of Julio Le Parc took place at the Palaise de Glace room, that showing was of much significance to me, the playfulness, the visual games, the performance, the way they interacted with their own work... that clearly traced a path to follow.
