Biography
I was born in San Gregorio, Santa Fe province, in the year 1968. Currently I live in Santa Fe city. I’m a visual artist, teacher of my own atelier that has been functioning ever since 1997, and at the Juan Montavani school of art. In the year 1994 I got a scholarship of painting perfectionism given by Santa Fe`s Culture Sub-department to attend Ahuva Szlimowicz`s atelier, following, I took classes with Guillermo Kuitca and in 1997 I attended Sergio Bazán’s studio. In the years 2002 and 2005 I got two scholarships to participate in the production and work analysis meetings coordinated by the Antorchas Foundation in Santa Fe and Paraná cities.
I’m part of the Praxis’ gallery (Buenos Aires) staff where I presented two solo exhibitions in 2004 and 2006. In the year 1996 I participated in the Fiera di Roma (Italy) and since 1994 in several national collective exhibitions. In 2001 I participated in the Pro Art Córdoba National Painting Award and in 1998 in the Deutche Bank Young Argentinean Art at the Recoleta Cultural Center (Buenos Aires, Argentina) among others. I got national awards such as: New painters’ recognition award at the Palais de Galce(Buenos Aires, Argentina) in the year 2000, and in the same year, the third painting prize at the Rosa Galisteo de Rodriguez National Award in Santa Fe. In 2003 I was given a special prize by the jury of the Regional Avon Award in Santa Fe.
Since 1992 I’ve realized costume designs for theater plays and shortcuts. In the year 2000 I was the Art Director of the movie Manager in two cities [Gerente en dos ciudades]
Ever since the year 2000, I`ve realized independent cultural management activities. In 2005,I created, with Cintia Romero and Rosana Storti, the Germina Campos cultural management unsettled space with the aim of diffusing the work of regional contemporary artists. In 2005, Germina Campos took part of Periphereal [Periferica], 1º fair and meeting of art spaces managed by artists, where we got the Galicia Bank Award for the best stand and self managed project, and in 2006 we participated in ArteBA’s Young Area where we got the 2006 FNA (National Art’s Fund) grant for group projects.
In 2007 I was called to curate the exhibition ‘7 Interfaces- Visual dialogues between regions: General Roca/Santa Fe’, program realized by the Nation Visual Arts and the FNA (National Art’s Fund).
Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
Though there is no one specific work that represents me the most, I think that “Plague” [Plaga], the installation I put up in the year 2006 for the Ensemble/Dissemble [Arma/desarma] exhibition at Praxis was meaningful. To make it I used over 700 metallic thimbles, I attached them to a 3x2.5meter wall in an irregular shape and I placed (suspended in air) two acrylic boxes, one had thimbles attached to its faces, and the other, metallic chips. The essence of this installation laid in the shadows projected by the thimbles and boxes attached to the wall. The topic is related to the insecurity / insecurities problematic and the vulnerability in the conquered securities.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
I’d rather not suggest a certain way to read my work, but I do considerate there is a conducting thread that crosses every work and that goes further on than formal differences. I think my 2007 photographic production can only be complete with the 1994 oil paintings series.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
I think about my production as a process (result of diverse influences) and as an open and dynamic construction; that’s why, I can’t make it fix in any tradition, and that doesn’t even interest me. My contemporary referents are those who get separated from the safe path. I’m interested in the artist’s way of looking, and in the collective or individual action above the product or object, that I feel in the production of some of my equals and collective projects such as: Eloisa Cartonera, Leandro Erlich, Shirin Neshat and Douglas Gordon in between many others.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
The exhibitions I considerate of a certain significance were: Disappeared in the Recoleta Cultural Center(Buenos Aires, Argentina) (2006); León Ferrari’s (2004) and Guillermo Kuitca’s (2003) retrospective exhibitions at Malba (Museum of Latin-American Art in Buenos Aires)
