Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
I’m very fond of the picture with the little castle (Atlantica Series) taken in Santa Clara del Mar. It’s a tiny fortress in which its owner was able to stamp his dreams and the fantasies of his life, something like an epic movie with a happy ending.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
I don’t suggest anything. I believe in the no-fate of Random.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
I don’t recognize myself in any tradition. I can only recognize myself through my friends, and to take pictures of certain things that annoy my perception. This effort makes me find sense and beauty in what’s traditionally ugly, fake, and supposedly, of bad taste. Like somebody said: “Unless what’s ugly is understood, what’s true won’t be understood. Even more: in understanding what’s fake, the truth emerges on its own”.
Artists that I’m interested in: Goldfrapp, Alexander Apóstol, Di Corcia, Alberto Goldenstein, Kosice, Diane Arbus, Mozart, Morten Nilsson, Martin Parr, Post industrial boys, Grete Stern, Philipp Weigl, Asian Punk Boy, Wolfgang Tillmans, Butt Magazine.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
I was interested in the exhibitions I’ve seen in Rojas Cultural Center, Belleza y Felicidad, Boquitas Pintadas, in a way they are places where many artists gave their first steps.
