Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
Any of these images represent my type of work: straight shot, everyday surreal moments.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
As they wish.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
I’m pretty traditional: the moment of the shot is what matters.
My main influences and referents are mi draughtsman and photographer friends, they are many, some I’ve mentioned.
The “book” ones that I like are the surrealists, the Pre-Raphaelites: Dante Daniel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, John Everett Millais, Vermeer, Delacroix, Michelangelo, Toulouse-Lautrec, Velázquez, Dalí, Frans Masereel, Norman Rockwel, Carlos Alonso, Guillermo Roux, Greco, Fader.
Photographers: Henri Cartier–Bresson, Bruce Davinson, Robert Doisneau, Brassai, Henri Lartigue, Diane Arbus, Avedon, Nan Goldin, Ataúlfo Pérez Aznar, Marcos López.
Directors: Herzog, Kubrick, Greenaway, Pasolini, Tarantino, Buñuel, Fellini, Coppola, Polansky, Lucrecia Martel, Sorin, Sapir.
Draughtsmen : Bob Kane, Jack Kirby, Joe Kubert, José Luís Salinas, the Breccia, Zanotto.
Music: Elvis Presley, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jòao Gilberto, Vinicius De Moraes, Caetano, Roy Orbison, Beatles, Stones, Velvet Underground, Marley, Jackson, James Brown, Roxy Music, Air, Morcheeba, Kid Loco, Massive Attack, Legiào Urbana, Manu Chao, Melero, Cerati, Miguel Abuelo, Charly, Willy Crook. Well, this are the names I rembember right now.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
Deira, Macció, Noé, De La Vega, 1961-1991/New Figuration [Deira, Macció, Noé, De La Vega, 1961-1991/Nueva Figuración] at Recoleta Cultural Center (Buenos Aires, Argentina); Carlos Pérez-photography [Carlos Pérez-fotografías] at Recoleta Cultural Center (Buenos Aires, Argentina) (1991), I was just getting started with photography and I can still remember the images; Mar del Plata; Hell or Heaven? [Mar del Plata: Infierno o paraíso?] by Pérez Aznar, also at Recoleta Cultural Center (Buenos Aires, Argentina) (1992?); Al Mundy’s 1st show at Bar Doisneau (1998), the begginnin of a legend; Art’s Tao [El Tao del Arte] curated by Gumier-Maier; the first Panoramix Proa Foundation. I also affectionately remember (more the event tan the production) the First Young Art Biennale.
I have a terrible memory, if I had time to search in my brochures’ boxes (I used to keep them) I could think of many more
