Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
There are many works that represent me but at this time I choose "Girl with a table”, painting on synthetic silhouette of wood, where is represented a girl mounted on a pink bird holding a table in her hands, “the table of the law". On this table appear various figures accompanying the intimate character who is holding "HER table". Although the figurative, there’s a treatment that tends to abstraction. The synthetic image is constructed with large flat-color; a monochrome palette is following the synthesis of the composition. This work is part of a series, also painted silhouettes, where the characters are surrounded by people and items that refer to death natures, formal worlds of games (where some self biographies are shown), where incredible and credible meet.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
I have nothing in particular to suggest, that the viewer relaxes and devotes time to look over everything. The best thing would be to see several works together, for instance a whole series where the works enhance among them, and not a single isolated one.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
I feel connected with people who work from painting and the graphic design joining them together with some movement towards the comic. Self-management for instance has made me produce small author editions and limited series of cloth and stone dolls. I also direct along Guillermo Martinez a figures (plane and volume ones) theatre, which allows me to take part of other environments. Almost always I work with an eye on my more intimate surroundings, my painters friends Max Cachimba and Michele Siquot nourish me a lot. Artists who I love: Vincent van Gogh, Giorgio Morandi, Edward Hopper, Philip Guston, Kitagawa Utamaro, Frida Kahlo, George Grosz, Schiavoni Augusto, Juan Grela, Kveta Pacovska, Mark Beyer, Koji Morimoto, Violeta Parra, Arnal Ballester, Fabio Zimbro and many more ...
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
Augustus Schiavoni’s retrospective at the Museum Castagnino de Rosario curated by Maria Eugenia Spinelli. Wonderful exhibition of an artist of the 30’s that people should get to know and beyond, so many works together! The work of Michele Siquot, Max Cachimba, Lola Goldstein, Constance Alberione, Emilio Ghilioni, Luis Lindner and many more ...
5. What tendencies or groupings from common elements do you see in argentine art of the last ten or fifteen years?
I think there are many trends that overlap and coexist with each other, but time will best talk about it all.
